My thought on Humanist ceremonies:
Many people who are not religious do not know about Humanism as an organized lifestance, but are looking for someone who can represent their values and help them to celebrate significant life passages in emotionally meaningful ceremonies. That is where a Humanist Celebrant can really help. I hear from many people who initially say they want a ceremony with “no religion”, but don’t know what is possible. Working together, we craft a ceremony that tells their story, is true to their values, and is accessible to their family and friends, regardless of individual beliefs.
I view my work as a Humanist Celebrant as a way to spread the story of Humanism; to support individuals, couples and families as they mark milestone moments in their life; and to demonstrate in some small but tangible way what it can mean to be “good without God”.
